November 20, 2024

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) marked Global Entrepreneurship Week by hosting a lecture aimed at empowering Kano’s youth, young girls, and women involved in entrepreneurship.

The event focused on the importance of digital tools and online safety and security, crucial topics for today’s entrepreneurs.

CITAD’s Executive Director, Malam Yunusa Ya’u, emphasized the significance of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which is celebrated worldwide each November.

“Global Entrepreneurship Week is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare,” Malam Ya’u said.

“This week, people everywhere are inspired through local, national, and global activities designed to help them explore their potential as self-starters and innovators.”

Represented by Haruna Adamu Hadejia, Malam Ya’u added that the week’s activities are important in igniting entrepreneurial spirits and encouraging self-reliance among individuals, especially in underrepresented groups.

The lecture also featured a session by Muhammad Bello Yahaya, a member of CITAD’s Technical and Innovation Unit, who shed light on online safety and security measures for entrepreneurs.

“As entrepreneurs increasingly rely on digital tools for business operations, understanding the risks associated with online platforms is paramount,” Yahaya explained.

“CITAD is focused on equipping Kano’s youth, young girls, and women with the knowledge to protect their digital identities and secure their businesses from online threats.”

The event provided insights for aspiring and established entrepreneurs, helping them navigate the digital landscape safely and effectively as they continue to contribute to economic growth and innovation in the region.
