Tungan Ashere is a rural farming community in Bwari Area Council, FCT, located at GPS: 9.164018, 7.076592. The community is predominantly Gbagi-speaking, with an estimated population of about 2,500 people.
The community has basic infrastructure, including LEA Primary School, Tungan Ashere and a central mosque. Farming and small-scale trading remain the main sources of livelihood, supported by strong community organisation through the long-established Allah Ya Baku Group Farmers’ Cooperative Society.

With the support of CITAD and Hello World, a community network and hub have already been successfully deployed in Tungan Ashere. The hub now serves as a shared community space for learning, digital access and local development activities, helping residentsespecially young people and farmers connect to information, skills and opportunities.
Despite this progress, the community continues to face challenges, particularly the lack of a secondary school, the absence of a primary healthcare facility, and limited local employment opportunities, which often push young people to seek work outside the community.
The successful deployment of the hub was made possible through strong community ownership, including the provision of land, unskilled labour, sand, water and food, as well as ongoing support through a community contributory fund. This reflects the community’s commitment to sustaining and growing the hub as a long-term resource for Tungan Ashere.
