The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with the MacArthur Foundation, concluded a six-week digital skills training program for people with disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State.

The program provided participants with essential digital and computer skills.

Yusuf Ibrahim Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on ICTs to the Kano State Governor, acknowledged CITAD’s efforts and stated he would advocate for creating positions for PWDs within the state government.

“This training is timely, and I will personally advocate for employment opportunities for these individuals,” Sharada said.

Ahmad Abdullahi Yakasai, training coordinator at CITAD, highlighted the organization’s focus on providing technology access to marginalized communities.

“We believe in a society where technology is accessible to all, without discrimination,” Yakasai said.

Malam Ibrahim Lamido, representing the Kano State Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Development, expressed the ministry’s support for PWD initiatives.

“Our ministry is committed to including PWDs in all government programs,” he said, adding that they would collaborate with CITAD on government projects promoting PWD inclusion.

Hamza Aminu Fagge, CITAD’s PWD Coordinator, acknowledged the participants’ commitment and encouraged the government to engage PWDs in its activities.

“We urge the government to ensure accessibility and inclusivity at all levels,” Fagge stated.

Maryam Aminu Muhammad, a program participant, expressed appreciation to CITAD and the MacArthur Foundation. “With this training, PWDs are now recognized and empowered to contribute,” Muhammad said.

This follows CITAD’s recent launch of a Digital Training Hub for PWDs, the first of its kind in Northwestern Nigeria, aiming to equip over 300 individuals with digital skills.
