The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has trained 130 men in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State to promote gender equality and prevent gender-based violence (GBV).
The training was organised under the Male Feminists Network (MFN) Project, an initiative designed to mobilise men and boys as active allies in promoting gender equality and preventing GBV in Northern Nigeria.
The project is supported by the Ford Foundation through the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD).
CITAD’s MFN Communication Officer, Buhari Abba, said the participants were equipped with knowledge and skills to challenge harmful gender norms and promote safer and more respectful communities.
He urged the newly registered champions to cascade the advocacy messages to at least 50 people each to expand community awareness and strengthen collective action against gender-based violence.
Abba said mobilising men and boys was essential to challenging harmful practices, promoting respect and building communities where women and girls could live free from violence and discrimination.
