The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has secured the support of Premier Radio Kano for its Male Feminists Network (MFN) Project aimed at preventing gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting gender equality.
A member of the MFN Project team, Kamal Garba Alhassan, disclosed this during an advocacy visit to the management of the radio station in Kano.
Alhassan said the visit was part of CITAD’s efforts to mobilise men and boys as active allies in preventing GBV and advancing gender equality, particularly in Kano, Jigawa and Kaduna states.
He emphasised the important role of the media, especially radio, in raising public awareness and promoting behavioural change across Northern Nigeria.
Responding, the Chairman of Premier Radio, Malam Abba Dabo, pledged the station’s support for the campaign.
Dabo promised to provide free airtime for special reports, interviews and programmes aimed at promoting the role of men and boys as allies in preventing GBV and advancing gender equality.
He said the support would provide an opportunity to expand public awareness and encourage greater participation of men and boys in efforts to address gender-based violence.
The Male Feminists Network Project seeks to engage men and boys in challenging harmful gender norms and promoting a society where women and girls can live free from violence and discrimination.
