The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), with support from the Association for Progressive Communications (APC), has launched a three-week training program on the repair, recovery, and reuse (3R) of digital technology for 20 youths in Kano state.
PRIME TIME NEWS gathered during the flag-off ceremony of the training on Tuesday that the program aims to address e-waste issues and promote a circular economy in Kano and other regions.
Speaking at the launch of the program, CITAD’s Executive Director, Engr. Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, represented by the Community Network Coordinator, Malam Haruna Adamu Hadejia, stated that the program is designed to equip young people with the skills and opportunities needed to build a prosperous and sustainable future in the circular economy.
Also speaking Program Officer Malam Ibrahim Nuhu emphasized the importance of equipping young people with an understanding of e-waste and promoting the circular economy as a vehicle for transformation in a globalized and competitive world.
He added that the skills and knowledge gained from the program will enable participants to gainful employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Dr. Maimuna Shehu Rufa’i of the Federal University Dutse highlighted the challenges of waste management in Nigeria and the lack of technical capabilities and resources to efficiently manage e-waste.
She urged participants to acquire skills and become self-reliant, thereby contributing to the economic life of the country and the nation-building process.
