The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) is thrilled to announce
the launch of the Youth Sustainable Enterprise Challenge (YSEC) in Jigawa State,
Nigeria. This impactful initiative is funded by the British Council, implemented in technical
partnership with King’s Trust International, and delivered by CITAD.
About the YSEC Programme
YSEC is part of the British Council’s Youth Connect global programme, which aims to
create positive pathways for young people through entrepreneurship, employability, and
active citizenship. The programme is also implemented in Abuja, Imo, Rivers and Ogun
States, targeting similar demographics.
Programme Goals and Target Audience
Empower 80 young people in Jigawa State, aged 18 to 35
Focus on aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs
Special emphasis on women and persons with disabilities
Expansion & Impact
This is the third edition of YSEC delivered by CITAD. While previous cycles in Kano
State were highly successful, this year, the programme expands to Jigawa, bringing
quality training and opportunities to a new group of young Nigerians.
Programme Duration & Key Activities
Running from June to September 2025, the programme includes:
Intensive business and entrepreneurship training
Structured mentorship sessions
A pitch competition where finalists will receive grants to grow their businesses

Financial management
Digital marketing

Legal compliance
In addition to training, they will benefit from mentorship, role model sessions, and ongoing
alumni support. This initiative aligns with CITAD’s mission “to empower citizens for a just
and knowledge-based society that is anchored on sustainable and balanced
development using ICT, Capacity Development, Advocacy, Research and Partnership.”
How to Apply
Interested young Nigerians in Jigawa State who meet the following criteria are encouraged to
apply:

Age 18-35 years

Location: Resident of Dutse Metropolis or willing to stay throughout the training period

Education: Secondary School Certificate (or equivalent)

Availability: Fully available from June to November 2025

Business Idea: Possesses a business idea needing development support

Screening: Willing to undergo physical screening before training

Commitment: Will follow CITAD’s guidelines during the programme

Experience 0-1 year of entrepreneurial experience

Language Fluent in English (written and oral)
