The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), with funding support from ActionAid Nigeria under the Local Rights Programme (LRP), organized a one-day training for Community Champions from the 18 LRP communities in the Federal Capital Territory on 3rd September, 2026, at Atlas Hotel, Gwagwalada.
The training brought together thirty-six (36) Community Champions, comprising one male and one female representative from each participating community. The primary objective was to refresh participants’ knowledge of their roles in supporting Child Message Collection (CMC), strengthen their community mobilization skills, and improve their capacity to use the Child Tracker effectively.
The training sessions were jointly facilitated by resource persons from CITAD and ActionAid Nigeria. Topics covered included an overview of the Child Sponsorship Programme, responsibilities of Community Champions, planning and mobilization for Child Message Collection, use of the Child Tracker, documentation requirements, and strategies for achieving 100% Child Message Collection during both collection periods.
The facilitators adopted participatory learning approaches, including presentations, group discussions, practical demonstrations, experience sharing, and question-and-answer sessions. Participants discussed challenges experienced during previous Child Message Collection exercises and collectively identified practical solutions for improving future implementation.
During the plenary session, Community Champions from Kayeche Community appealed for additional sponsorship links, explaining that there are more vulnerable children residing in the community who could benefit from the sponsorship programme if additional opportunities become available.
The training concluded successfully with participants reaffirming their commitment to improving mobilization, strengthening communication with caregivers, effectively utilizing the Child Tracker, and working towards achieving 100% Child Message Collection across all 18 LRP communities.
