CITAD Wraps Up KANSIS24 with Hackathon Focused on Healthcare Tech

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) recently hosted a two-day hackathon as part of the Annual Kano Social Influencers Summit (#KANSIS24), challenging innovators to use technology to address issues in Nigeria’s healthcare system.

The event concluded with several teams showcasing technological solutions aimed at improving healthcare delivery across the country.

Team “E-Healthcare” emerged as the winner, comprising five members—two women and three men—who developed a cloud-based web application designed to classify diseases in both urban and rural areas. Their innovation, which provides real-time tracking for emergency reports and management, earned them a prize of ₦100,000.

The second-place prize of ₦75,000 went to Team “Anonymous Nerd”, a two-person team that developed an AI-based health diagnosis and advisory system. Their system connects users to nearby healthcare centers.

In third place, Team “HealthHub”, an all-female team, presented an AI-powered symptom analysis web app. The app offers virtual consultations, electronic prescriptions, and tools for health monitoring. The team was awarded ₦50,000.

Malam Ibrahim Tihze, a Past President of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), praised the participants, saying, “The hackathon has demonstrated the incredible potential that technology holds in addressing critical challenges in our healthcare system.”

He added, “CITAD, believes in the power of technology not just as a tool for communication, but as a means to improve lives. The solutions presented here today offer hope for a better, more efficient healthcare system in Nigeria.”

The event concluded with CITAD reaffirming its dedication to fostering innovation and promoting technological solutions for societal challenges.
