CITAD Equips CSOs and members of Civil Service of Kano state with Data Protection and compliance skills

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in partnership with Top IT Consulting LTD, recently concluded a training program aimed at enhancing the data protection skills of civil servants and members of civil society organizations (CSOs) in Kano State. The training, held last week at the Kano CITAD Office, focused on data protection, compliance and global best practices.

During the one-day event, participants were taught how to safeguard sensitive information in the digital age and ensure compliance with the Nigerian Data Protection Law.

The Executive Director of CITAD, Engr. Y.Z. Ya’u, represented by Technical Officer Muhammad Bello Yahaya, highlighted the importance of data protection, stating, “In today’s world, data is the new oil. We must equip ourselves with the knowledge to protect this valuable resource.”

Mr. Bello added that empowering young people with these skills helps them navigate the digital landscape confidently and securely. CITAD’s Senior Program Officer, Malam Isah Garba, reiterated the training’s significance, noting that it contributes to building a secure digital future for Kano and Nigeria.

Participant Aftahana Dahiru Sarina shared his insights, stating, “This training opened my eyes to the risks involved in sharing data online. I now feel more confident in protecting my personal information.” He also mentioned that the best practices learned would be invaluable in handling sensitive data in his future career.

The training covered various topics, including the principles of data protection, relevant regulations, and best practices for securing sensitive information.
