The Youth Progressive Forum in Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State has commended the Centre for Information Technology and Development for organising digital literacy training for women and young women in the area.
The forum also appealed to the organisation to extend the programme to more women and young people in the local government.
The appeal was made when a delegation of the forum, led by Comrade Adamu Ibrahim and Comrade Sanusi Abubakar Abdullahi, visited the CITAD office on Wednesday to present a letter of appreciation for the impact of the training.
The delegation was received by CITAD Project Manager, Fatima Babakurap, alongside other members of the project team.
The training was organised under CITAD’s Addressing the Gender Digital Divide and Expanding Business Opportunities for Women in Northern Nigeria programme.
The initiative seeks to bridge the digital gap among women by equipping them with basic digital skills, promoting online safety and boosting their confidence in using technology.
Speaking during the visit, Ibrahim, who represented the youths of Rogo, thanked CITAD for taking the training to women in the community.
He said the programme had significantly improved the participants’ ability to use digital devices and social media, particularly for business purposes.
“Before the training, many of our women did not know how to properly use their phones or social media to promote their businesses. They mostly used their phones for taking pictures and posting.
“Now, they understand that their phones can also help them market their products and improve their businesses,” he said.
Ibrahim added that the training had also boosted the participants’ confidence in using email and other digital tools.
He said some beneficiaries previously relied on others to create email accounts for them whenever they bought new phones, but could now create and manage their accounts independently.
“Some of them used to pay people to open email accounts for them whenever they bought new phones. After the training, they can now create and manage their own email accounts and even assist their family members.
“This is a great achievement and something that makes us happy. That is why we decided to come to CITAD’s office to present a letter of appreciation and request further support,” he added.
The delegation urged CITAD to organise more digital literacy programmes in Rogo to enable more women and young people to acquire practical digital skills.
The forum said the visit highlighted the positive impact of digital literacy initiatives in helping women build confidence and use technology for communication, business and other opportunities.
