For residents of Kaida Sabo Community in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, the ICT Centre continues to serve as a gateway to digital opportunities. To help community members strengthen and retain the skills they had previously acquired, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), with support from ActionAid Nigeria through the Partnership and Local Rights Programme (P&LRP), organised a three-day ICT Refresher Training from July 13 to 15, 2026.
The training brought together 25 participants (14 women and 11 men) who were eager to sharpen their computer skills and build confidence in using digital tools for education, communication, business and other everyday activities. Rather than focusing on theory, the sessions were practical and interactive, allowing participants to learn by doing.
Facilitators guided participants through computer fundamentals, file management, Microsoft Word and the basics of internet use. Every session combined demonstrations with hands-on exercises, giving participants the opportunity to practise immediately and ask questions in a relaxed learning environment. This approach encouraged active participation and helped learners quickly regain confidence in using computers.
By the end of the training, participants showed noticeable improvement in their ability to operate computers, manage files and create and format documents independently. Many who had initially struggled with basic computer tasks completed practical exercises with little assistance, demonstrating the value of continuous learning and refresher programmes.
Participants described the training as timely and beneficial, and many expressed interest in advanced courses such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Graphic Design, Artificial Intelligence tools and Digital Entrepreneurship. Their enthusiasm reflects the growing demand for digital skills within the community.
Beyond improving individual competencies, the refresher training reinforced the role of the Kaida Sabo ICT Centre as a vital community resource and underscored CITAD’s commitment to promoting digital inclusion and ensuring underserved communities are equipped to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
