CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: TA`IYA CODING

In its effort to bridge the significant gender gap in the field of technology, particularly in coding, programming, and Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), which is limiting girls’ opportunities in the rapidly growing tech industry, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) aims to address the issues by training young girls who are less privileged in terms of accessing digital literacy. The TA`IYA Coding program will help young women between 16 and 25 learn and be mentored in different programming languages.  

Objective:

The objective of the TA`IYA Coding program is;

  1. To inspire and equip girls with the necessary skills to succeed in the digital age.
  2. To provide young girls and women access to coding education, mentorship, and support networks.
  3. To bridge the gender gap in technology and empower girls to become future leaders and innovators.

Key Components:

    1. Coding Workshops: Selected participants will attend a coding workshop to be introduced to basic programming concepts and tools.
    2. Mentorship Program: Beneficiaries will be paired with relevant mentors to guide and support their careers.
    3. Online Learning Platform: Beneficiaries will be linked to online learning platforms and resources to support their coding journey.
  •  Community Engagement: inspire young girls to participate in hackathons and coding competitions to showcase their coding projects.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Creation of a supportive network for girls interested in pursuing their career in Technology.
  2. Increased participation of women and girls in coding and STEM-related activities.
  3. Enhanced confidence and skills in coding among women and girls.
  4. Greater awareness and support for gender equality in the technology industry.

Application Criteria:

  1. Must be a young girl between the ages of 16-25
  2. Must have completed secondary school at the time of application.
  3. Have Basic computer skills.
  4. Must be supported by parents or guardians with transport fare and feeding to attend the training for 2 days a week.
  5. Have access to owned or family computer.

Duration of the Training:

The duration of the training is 3 months, with training sessions held days a week.

Interested applicants can apply for the TA`IYA Coding program by filling out the application form below on or before 23rd August 2024.
