REPORT OF THE CAREER TALK AND RURAL ROAD SHOW HELD IN FAGAM, GWRAM LOCAL GOVERNMENT, JIGAWA STATE ON 12TH JUNE, 2012

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has organized a career talk for the students of GDSS fagam, GJSS Fagam and Fagam primary School. About 200 students from above named schools attended the talk which conducted at the premises of GDSS Fagam.

In his presentation MalamSagiru Ado Abubakar of CITAD described Information Technology as the back born  of the modern society and urged the students to tighten their belt as the rate of ICT education is very low in our society. He then made an attempt to describe computer and its components. Sagir also brought different parts of the computer such monitor, keyboard, mouse, modem etc and explained them to the students. Further, he dismantled the System Unit and explained its components to the students.

During the explanation, sagir described the CPU as the brain of the computer which  comes in different specification. He also said that Motherboard is a major component in the system unit which every component must have a link in one way or the other with the Motherboard.

Classification of software applications and their functions were made clear during the presentation. Sagir tried and linked the uses of the computer with the application software. He mentioned that computer softwares were designed to have a solution to particular problems. There are software designed particularly for Doctors, Accountants, Engineerers, Archtetesters, Psychologist, etc. that is why computer education enters everywhere even places of worships.

At the end of the presentation, Sagir explained the internet and its uses especially in the learning institutions. He gave the example of online registration of NECO, WAEC, UME and the rest.

Many questions were raised at the end of the talk by the students which obviously showed that they understood the lecture. In view of this, Malam Ado who led the CITAD team distributed some ICT reading materials to the students; he then shed more lights on the activities of the CITAD beside the career talk.

The Principal GJSS fagamMalamMuhd Umar who chaired the occasion expressed his satisfaction over the effort of CITAD towards ICT awareness in our society. Consequently, he informed the gathering that there will be another event which CITAD organized and called Rural Road Show coming up in the evening at the palace of the district head. You are invited and you can invite others.

FAGAM ICT RURAL ROAD SHOW

Rural road show is one of the CITAD’s programs aimed at raising awareness among the local people who do not have access to ICT in order to understand its importance for societal development. Around 3:00pm of that vary day the CITAD team proceeded to the palace of the district head which set to be the venue of the show.

Before their arrival to the venue, already a town crier was sent to remind people about the event. A lot of people have attended and most of them youth. MalamMuhd a representative of Hisbah declared the occasion open by offering an opening prayer.

Malam Ado Shehu of CITAD made the presentation on the importance ICT knowledge during the show. He emphasized on the gap that exists in term of ICT knowledge among developed and developing nations. He drew the attention of the participants that the usefulness of ICT knowledge do not limit to a particular group of people but involved every body in the society. Take as an example; most of the people living in this town are farmers. So you can use the internet to market your farm products to the world at large. In addition, he discussed issues related to computer and its uses.

Most of the participants expressed their satisfaction and commended CITAD of this effort, as this is not the first time CITAD conducted related ICT activities in this town. They also asked if it would be possible for CITAD to organize computer training in this town. Consequently, he answered that CITAD can be able to conduct training in this town under one of its program called mobile training. He told that whenever they have the required number of trainees CITAD can bring their training materials to this town. Malam Ado then assigned AbubakarAdamuIdris a brother to the district head and who is currently conducting NYSC at CITAD to coordinate.

The show closed with the closing prayer offered by MalamMuhd around 5:15pm
