REPORT OF MARAI ON THE MARBLE QUIZ, DEBATE, AND STORYTELLING STUDENTS CREATIVITY COMPETITION ON November 30, 2024

ORGANIZED BY THE CENTER FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT (CITAD) IN JAMA’ARE LOCAL

In its Efforts to promote a reading culture among secondary schools in Jama’are Local Government, the
Center for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) organized a quiz and debate
competition title MARAI ON THE MARBLE. The event took place on November 30, 2024, at the
Federal College of Education, Jama’are, with ten secondary schools participating across three categories:
Quiz, Debate, and Storytelling.
The competition was graced by notable dignitaries, including His Royal Highness, the Emir of Jama’are,
Alh. Nuhu Ahmad Wabi (MNI), represented by Sarkin Yakin Jama’are, Alh. Sabo Likita. The Executive
Chairman of Jama’are Local Government, Alh. Inuwa Abdullahi Moisha was represented by the Local
Government Secretary, Alh. Abdullahi Danbaba. Other distinguished guests included Hajiya Binta
Gidado, Head of the ESD Department; Alh. Sale Sabo, Assistant Comptroller of the Nigerian
Correctional Service, Jama’are Division; Mal. Ali Isa, Education Secretary of Jama’are Local Education
Authority; traditional titleholders, and principals and head teachers from various schools.
The Emir of Jama’are, represented by Alhaji Sabo Likita, expressed his gratitude to the Executive
Director for his dedication to promoting a reading culture among students in Jama’are. He further urged
the Jama’are Emirate Council to honor Dr. Y.Z. Ya’u with a traditional title as a token of appreciation for
his contributions to the community.
The Chairman of Jama’are Local Government, represented by the Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Danbaba,
also commended CITAD for its impactful community initiatives in Jama’are. These include establishing a
Community Network Hub, renovating drainage systems, and working in partnership with the North East
Development Commission to set up a JAMB center. He also highlighted the admission of five students to
the School of Community Network as part of these efforts. He concluded by praising CITAD's ongoing
commitment to the development of Jama’are.
During the event, generous donations were received, including ₦30,000 from Alh. Ali Isah Yuguda,
Chairman of Yuguda Investment. ₦20,000 from Zahra Y.Z. Ya’u, specifically for the participating female
students; and ₦12,000 from Alh. Abdullahi Danbaba.
The competition began with the Quiz, followed by Debates, and concluded with Storytelling. The
following ten schools participated:
1. Government Arabic College, Jama’are
2. Government Day Technical School, Jama’are
3. Wabi Academy
4. Alfurqan Academy
5. JIBWIS Science Secondary School
6. Asasul Islam Secondary School, Jama’are
7. School for Higher Islamic Studies, Jama’are
8. Future Solution Academy
9. Government Day Senior Secondary School, Jama’are
10. Hassan Moh’d Government Girls Secondary School

The Quiz was judged by a panel of five, led by Dr. Zakariya Jibril, alongside Mal. Ahmad Arabi, Mal.
Bilal Abdul Kadir, Mal. Abdullahi Bello, and Mal. Haruna Chadi. Complaints were handled by Naim
Sulaiman.
Debate Topics
1. What age should a child get a phone?
2. Is global warming a fact or myth?
3. Do electronic voting machines make elections more efficient?
4. Should education be mandatory?
5. Is technology improving quality of life?
6. Is Artificial Intelligence dangerous?
7. Should schools prioritize math and science over arts and humanities?
8. Should teachers be paid as much as doctors?
9. Is giving better than receiving?
10. Should schools emphasize practical skills over traditional academics?
At the conclusion of the Marai on the Marble Creativity competition, the following prizes were
distributed to the winning schools in recognition of their exceptional performances. Below are the details:

Conclusion

The prizes were designed to acknowledge the hard work and creativity displayed by the students and to motivate them to adopt reading culture in their mindset. The event successfully reinforced the importance of academic and cultural excellence in Jama’are Local Government.

In conclusion, the panel of judges strongly recommends that the centre initiate a program for professional development training for English teachers at participating schools. This initiative aims to enhance the teachers’ ability to foster critical thinking skills in their students, thereby improving their performance in future competitions and beyond

The Quiz, Debate, and Storytelling Students Creativity Competition were a resounding success. It provided a valuable platform for students to develop their intellectual and creative abilities. The event’s success underscores the importance of such initiatives in fostering academic excellence and cultural appreciation.

It is recommended that CITAD continues to organize similar events regularly and expands their reach to include more schools and communities. These efforts will undoubtedly contribute to the holistic development of students in Jama’are Local Government.
