The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched a transformative partnership with the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation (NKF) to train young people in Northern Nigeria on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI), digital rights, and data protection. This strategic collaboration, sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), seeks to advance digital literacy and bridge the digital divide in underserved communities, with a particular focus on students, youth, women, journalists, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The initiative is designed to equip participants with vital skills to navigate today’s digital landscape safely and responsibly. It also aims to promote inclusive access to ICT education while preparing communities for opportunities in the digital economy. Speaking on the significance of the partnership, Yesmin Salako, CITAD’s Program Officer in Abuja, reaffirmed CITAD’s commitment to building a digitally aware and empowered society. She noted that the collaboration is a step forward in ensuring that young people are not left behind as the world moves rapidly toward digital transformation.
“This partnership with the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation will not only provide technical training but also promote digital responsibility and inclusion, helping young people become active participants in the digital economy,” she said.
Through this partnership, participants will benefit from a comprehensive training program covering emerging technologies, platform development, IT professional skills, and critical digital rights education. By offering hands-on, industry-relevant courses, the initiative is expected to significantly enhance the technical capacity of young Nigerians.
Mr. Abdurrazak Imam, Program Officer at the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation, also highlighted the importance of practical training in achieving long-term impact. “Our focus is to provide hands-on training that directly benefits the participants, empowering them to use technology safely and responsibly,” he stated.
As both organizations commit to a sustained and collaborative effort, the partnership is poised to play a critical role in advancing digital inclusion, fostering innovation, and contributing to the broader goal of national development through youth empowerment.
