CITAD Supports Sokoto RAAMP On ICT Know-how

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has completed a two-week training program for twenty (20) staff members of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in Sokoto state.
Mr. Ahmad Abdullahi Yakasai, the training coordinator of CITAD, who represented the Centre’s Executive Director, Engr. Yunusa Zakari Ya’u, stated that the training aimed to enhance the capacity of the participants and sensitize them to the benefits of using ICT for administration. It also aimed to expose them to effective ways of planning, deploying, and managing ICT in their respective fields.
He continued to mention that it is widely accepted globally that ICTs are crucial tools for development processes.
Mr. Yakasai added that considering the increasing need for ICTs in administration and the volume of documents and communications that administrators handle, ICT skills have become essential.
“Students can use ICT to enhance their learning, teachers can use it to aid their teaching, and administrators can use ICT also for day-to-day operations and management of their institutions”
He further mentioned that CITAD has developed a fast-track module that requires minimal time from the participants, and it has been thoroughly tested.
“CITAD views this as an opportunity to provide ICT Capacity Building for administrators. It is, therefore, imperative that officers in the MDAs, especially administrative staff, become proficient in using ICT infrastructure in their offices for the benefit of the staff, government, and other partners,” said Mr. Yakasai.
In his remarks, Engr. Dahiru Isah Issa, the Secretary of the RAAMP Sokoto state, emphasized the importance of ICT, stating that it is essential for the success of the project and is a part of the project’s work plan.
He also predicted that in the near future, offices would transition to online interactions, highlighting the need to embrace ICT to avoid being left behind.
The Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) is a third-generation rural access project that aims to strengthen the institutional and financing base for sustainable state and rural network management.
RAAMP is funded through contributions from the Federal Government of Nigeria, facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), with support from the International Development Association (IDA), a subsidiary of the World Bank.
